Project MgmtUnreal Engine 5C++
Game Dev Program — Unreal Engine 5
A year-long program where students learn C++, then design and ship a full playable game level in Unreal Engine 5 — which I scope, mentor, and project-manage to the finish line.
Role
Project Manager & Mentor
Timeline
2025–26
Tools
Unreal Engine 5, C++, Stanford / Tom Looman course
The Problem
Getting students to ship a real game in a year is less about code than about scope and follow-through. Most never finish — the idea balloons, or motivation fades before the deadline. The challenge is turning ambition into something that actually ships.
The Approach
- Structured the year in two halves: the first six months, students learn C++ fundamentals through a Stanford-instructed Unreal Engine course (Tom Looman).
- In the second six months, each team designs and builds a full playable level of a prototype game.
- My role is project management — scoping each idea down to something shippable, keeping motivation up, and ideating with teams when they get stuck.
- Held a hard end-of-year deadline and kept everyone on track so the work actually shipped.
